The Institute of Advanced Studies Kőszeg - Hungary (iASK) invites researchers with research interest corresponding to the BIOEAST macro-region to apply for an individual research fellowship for the year 2026. The iASK scholarship is an autonomous, multidisciplinary funding opportunity; potential applicants could build on the ongoing BIOEAST and SOLO cooperation and consider framing their multidisciplinary research proposals around the critical soil-water nexus, as it belongs to the topics to be awarded. This provides a critical opportunity which could bring great visibility to ensure soil related research priorities of the macro-region to be embedded in the future of European policies.
The Aim
The scholarship, with a great level of autonomy, has the potential to support a researcher in conducting a comparative analysis that connects the findings of the EU-funded SOLO project, which is developing roadmap and a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for soils with the priorities of the BIOEAST macro-region. The soil related research in the centre with a specific focus on the critical Water-Soil-Climate Nexus is a recognized priority of the BIOEAST during Hungarian EU Presidency, and could emphasizes the fundamental link between land management practices, soil health, and regional water retention, and possible analyses and potential implication of the macro-regions countries current practices linked to Common Agricultural Policy and Water Resilience/Water framework directives. Beyond the analyses, such a collaboration in the macro region could potentially open the possibility to develop new international projects under Horizon or COST programs, but also a longer cooperation for the researchers in the future work of the new UN University Institute in Kőszeg.

This research may get financial support through iASK’s scholarship program for the year 2026. The fellowship offers a unique platform for a 3-5 month research period, starting as early as February 15, 2026.
